Rojas Wins 1st National Doubles Title - Ruiz Defends

National Doubles _Logo 2014

The 2014 USAR 47th National Doubles was hosted by the Student Recreations Center on the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ.  Ektelon’s presence was spread not only throughout the tournament as a co-presenting sponsor, but throughout the draws with plenty of representation in their division’s finals.  Jose Rojas won his first of what we know will be many US Team Qualifying Division titles partnering up with IRT #2 Rocky Carson. Before getting to the finals Rojas/Carson narrowly escaped their semifinal match with a 11-8 tiebreaker win over Charlie Pratt and his partner. In the finals, Rojas/Carson took on a surprising face of Team Ektelon player Tom Fuhrmann and his partner Ben Croft in the finals, as Fuhrmann/Croft entered the tournament just days before play began. In what was one of the most exciting matches of the tournament, Rojas and his partner came out victorious in a tough tiebreaker. Tom has been a longtime Team Ektelon player and has numerous National Titles to his name. Great showing by Tom and congrats on making the US National Team!

In the Women’s US Team Qualifying division defending champion Aimee Ruiz and her partner Janel Tisinger were up against the 2012 Champs of Rhonda Rajsich and Kim Russell-Waselenchuk. Ruiz and Tisinger came out victorious in a two game win 15-9 15-10. Ruiz’s victories did not end there, she also took home the Mixed Open Doubles title with partner Jansen Allen. This marks Ruiz’s 10th Mixed Open National Doubles title and 9th Women’s Team Qualifying title. These wins for Rojas and Ruiz not only earns them spots on the US National Racquetball Team but means they will be representing Team USA at the World Championships in June this year which will be held in Burlington, Canada.
